You're Mine

You're Mine:
When they come for me i won't go without a fight
It's the way that i've been taught, don't know if it's wrong or right
I'm gonna take some hits and i'm gonna bust some teeth,
When they break this veneered smile they might not like what's underneath
I'm an honourable man, but i seldom let it show,
And the way i feel tonight i might let that honour go
I've been pushed and i've been pulled and they told me many lies,
But i've had it up to here and now they've crossed the final line,
I'm right and i am just and i do not make a fuss
But the limits have been stretched as we watch them turn to dust
Because everything you fear will be sitting waiting here
On your bed with the lights out in your room
And when you come back home and you're quiet all alone
I'll be waiting to whisper in the gloom - You're mine.
I've lived a quiet life, mostly in between the lines
I always avoided conflict and enjoyed the best of times
But the rotten at the top are now spreading their disease
And they will not stop until this land is on it's knees.
The bankers are all rich, the politicians gorged and fat
Celebrity is the new drug more addictive than crack
So i am just a man and my feet are all i have
To hold me up in these times as i try to make a stand
So wake the dormant urge and we're going after blood
As i watch the god fearing men drag his name through the mud
Because everything you fear will be sitting waiting here
On your bed with the lights out in your room
And when you come back home and you're quiet all alone
I'll be waiting to whisper in the gloom - You're mine

Dead Behind The Eyes

Dead Behind The Eyes:
Everybody knows there's something wrong with the kid in the house with the trellis and the ivy on. It's a shame.
In the house across the street there's eyes in the glow. The curtains twitch back from the front window.
And as the years have passed we've met him once or twice
And all the times we have there's something not quite right
There's something very weird about that boy
There's something very wrong when he smiles
The teeth are on show but the lights are all blown
The dancing on your grave to the music of the bones
He's the grey blank slate you cannot know. Dead behind the eyes.
His parents spend their Sundays in the church. We think they pray for the lifting of the curse.
We watch the stream of girls he seems to know. They arrive Lux Lisbon style in through the window.
We only see each once and we never see them leave.
We think there's a graveyard beneath the falling leaves
There's something very weird about that boy
There's something very wrong when he smiles
The teeth are on show but the lights are all blown
The dancing on your grave to the music of your bones
He's the grey blank slate you cannot know. Dead behind the eyes
I know you may think i am carried away but the eyes, they show nothing like two empty frames on a soul that's gone AWOL, if it was ever there
And you feel yourself withering under his stare.
So we watch to see what he'll get up to next with a quivering lip and butterflies in my chest, and you may think i am joking to mess with your head, but tonight he came for dinner and now i am...

Don't Drink The Water

Don't Drink The Water:
With dreams of progression and humility, you left for the city.
Be all you could be.
You left this house with your heart sewn to your sleeve, stitched in with integrity.
As we got your letters handwritten and true, whispered you were hopeful.
Our hope is in you.
You signed your name with coloured inks, in red and blue,
PS i'll do my best to see this through.
And it's not right, things aren't getting better.
All those lies hidden in all your letters
And i told you don't drink the water and i told you don't eat the food
And you said you want to try, you might just do some good.
As we got your letters getting further apart,
They were typed out and empty, from the brain not the heart
The ugly signature sits callous and i laugh.
I know your name and who you really are
And it's not right, things aren't getting better.
All those lies hidden in all your letters
And i told you don't drink the water and i told you don't eat the food
And you said you want to try, you might just do some good
We saw you this morning on BBC news, you were dodging the questions
And avoiding the truth.
Your father steals a glimpse then turns away his face.
Says 'That is not how our son was raised'

Half Way Down

Halfway Down:
Halfway down and still i'm falling, nothing to save me in the sky
I close my eyes and still i'm falling. 'I don't know what I've done,' i sigh.
And you and me, there's so much left to do there,
So many thoughts that we could be
But still i fall. I'm holding tightly to a mist no-one can see
Have you fallen for another? Have you fallen for another man?
If you tell me i will try and understand.
Halfway down and going nowhere. My eyes they water in the wind.
I close my eyes and breathe in all this back to where it all begins
And me and you, there's so much left to see here
So many things left to feel
And still i fall, the mist has gone now. Was it ever even real?
Have you fallen for another? Have you fallen for another man?
If you tell me i will try and understand.
I will try and understand.
Halfway down and still i'm falling. I reach for your outstretched hand.
It's still there from where you pushed me.
Oh who will catch me when i land.

The Highwire Calamity Gravesend, UK
Aiming for somewhere between Arcade Fire and Murder By Death, usually missing
wildly.
I had songs that weren't right for my other band (3dbsdown.bandcamp.com), so I started demoing them for myself. It has got a bit out of hand. I'd like to record more songs properly but that costs money, so all contributions gratefully accepted.
